Otto Dix, Erich Heckel, Hermann Hesse – all of them knew and loved the inspiring power of the countryside at Untersee, the southwest extension of Lake Constance. Since the beginning of the 20th century, it has cast its spell on artists, who found an abundance of enticing motifs here. Since April 2006, visitors have been able to compare the perspectives of the countryside with the works of the Untersee painters at the stops of the new art route, where the artists’ easels were once placed. Large format metal plaques show the reproduction of works of art, which were created at these spots. Through the hollow frame, you have a view that allows the beholder to capture the painter’s perspective. A brochure on the art route provides information on the sites and explains the background of the places and the artists.
